Not to Xbox'ers... apparently, prepaid Microsoft Point cards purchased in the US cannot be used on a Canadian account.

Tried gifting 1600 points to my brother and this is what happened. Microsoft said they could exchange one code for another, though. I have a trouble ticket reference number.
