I was just reading about the military using lasers to bring down missiles, planes, etc (years away still) and I'm curious: What limits the range

of such a weapon?

Will it dissipate at long distances?

If a ship aims at a missile and misses, at what distance would the laser no longer be dangerous?

Would it continue on into space at full strength? What if it missed a missile but hit a satellite accidently? At that point is it likely still strong enough to damage or destroy the satellite?
