Tangentially related: my Dad is a small town dentist. Occasionally he will meet a patient in his office after hours if there is an emergency.

If the patient is female, he always takes someone with him (usually my mom, but sometimes he used to take me or my sisters).

His thinking is that he didn't want anyone accusing him of anything improper when it was just his word against the patient's.
