Isn't that how they generally handle sequels for screenplays?

I'm sure exceptions exist, but I think that's the common approach.

(not arguing for or against, just saying it makes sense to the extent that I think it's consistent)

Yup. "Adapted" as opposed to "original." Sequels are based on previously published material, in that sense. -- nm - mara Jan 24, 14:41
