It hit it's stride in the mid 80's...but it had kinda wandered early in the decade.

Shelly Long left in 86/87 and when Kirstie showed up, it went to a whole new level.
Basically Cosby in 84? reinvigorated the sitcom and Cheers rode the lifted tide.
