According to Google numbers, less than 800 people have been killed bike riding in each of 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Out of the millions riding, that's a pretty small percentage. Less so when breaking out adult fatalities (as we were talking about bikes to kids).
My point isn't that people shouldn't wear helmets when bike riding. I just don't think a helmet needs to be a universal requirement either. (And it's why I'm not a big fan of bike helmet laws.)
