be one of the 800. It is a small reasonable precaution to take to avoid serious injury. It's not saying never get on a bike because people get hurt, it's just not being stupid with risks. I'll be damned if my kid is getting on a horse without a helmet and the same goes for a bike. You assess risk and decide it's either too risky to do at all or what are reasonable compromises you can make for safety. This is not a big deal and if you let your kid ride without a helmet and they suffer a head injury I think you will be hard-pressed not to feel like you made a huge mistake, whereas if they are on a bike and wearing a helmet and suffer an injury you can at least feel like you acted reasonably and shit happens.
