This weekend we had a girls day outing at Carthage. The ruins were a repeat for me; fascinating this time was visiting one of the royal trashed homes.

Imed Trabelsi is one of Leila Trabelsi's brothers. Leila is ex-president Ben Ali's wife.
The house was right next to the site of the Roman Villas. Like, his backyard led directly onto the site.
The home itself was 3 stories, more vertical that horizontal. A little bridge led to the medieval-style gated front door which was hilariously kitschy. Everything had been looted and destroyed inside. Everything. Pipes and cables ripped from the walls, etc. Rubble and rubbish everywhere.
The walk-in closet surprisingly still had all of its rich wood panels. I would die for a closet that big. The sea view of the Mediterranean was expected. For a relatively small home, the elevator was completely unnecessary, as was the huge mosaic in the shaft.
DVD covers were everywhere. It was ironic to pick up Gladiator Director's Cut off the floor since there's a Carthage battle scene and we were in Carthage.
The pool had a tiled design with fish swimming around a spilled jar of gold coins.
The house itself was, by western and resort standards, nothing too out of the ordinary. However, it's definitely a castle in the sky for most of the local citizens.
