food makes up a bigger proportion of the cpi on lots of countries. in the us it's 7.8%, but in most countries....

food is a much, much bigger portion of cpi. to the tune of 31.4% in china and 47.1% in india.
this is one good reason why the chinese central bank is hiking rates like wildfire. soaring food prices are a much bigger deal for inflation there as opposed to here.
