The gov't has a rare opportunity to address the deficit when (it seems) popular opinion is willing to support it.

This won't last for long and Obama needs to accept that history will not reflect favorably on the President who made major spending cuts and/or raised taxes significantly. But I sincerely hope that they make some hard cuts and get this thing under control now, while they can. Before the public moves on to something else.
