When Kim and I did the Top Chef preview this season, one of the points we touched upon is that seasons 4 and 6 of Top Chef are clearly the best. The final five remaining players from season 6 of Top Chef are all well established chefs.
The fourth season was marred by the producers' desire to maintain a villain throughout the second half of episodes. Because of this, some of the best players didn't make the finale. Dale was not this good that year, though. He had notable anger management issues he needed to overcome, which he has clearly done.
Antonia was the person specifically robbed by the propping along of the much less talented Lisa, who narrowly avoided elimination in six out of the final seven (!) challenges. Antonia only won once, but she was on the high end six times as opposed to being on the bottom once.
The winner from that season, Stephanie Izzard, never jumped off the page since she is so low key in terms of personality, but she beat Richard Blais heads up in the finale. He said at the time that he felt he had choked, but she had matched him in terms of victories throughout the year. She's clearly a marvelous chef although I do think Richard's driving need to be spectacular hurt him a tremendous amount.
