Slightly morbid hypothetical question

You're the manager of an office.
One of your employees dies unexpectedly.
In tending to the employee's workspace, you find a small combination safe in/under his/her desk, but you can't find anything that would indicate what the combination would be. There's no job-related reason that the employee would need to have the safe (e.g. he doesn't need to store backup tapes, etc). You can hear something rattling around in the safe, so you don't think it's empty.
The employee has no relatives that you know of.
What do you do with the safe?

It's just his snack food. He didn't want you and his grubby co-workers munching his snacks. :) -- nm

I'd find a way to open it. if it's at the office, it's fair game. I'd catalogue, document, and have a witness though. -- nm

I would talk to my legal department. I think the presence on business property means you have a right to access it

It would become property of the business unless somebody (relative) comes forward to claim it
