I'm atheistic, but my wife believes in "a god," just not the typical religions. (She isn't a church goer, either.)
I want our kids to grow up with the ability to choose their religion as they learn about them. Right now my oldest daughter is dating a boy who is rather religious, and has been attending their Wednesday night Youth Groups. She enjoys it, but she's also rather no-God leaning (from my view points).
I think if both sides understand and are tolerant of the other's beliefs, it could work, but I agree that "ultimately," it would throw some large divides in the relationship.
