The private sector has not been given for the good of balancing state budgets. Private sector employees have been giving (without choice) so that company bottom lines are higher and investors prosper. There's a serious imbalance of power of private sector in the private sector where the worker has too little (outside of certain limited union industries)
The public sector is now being asked to give a lot, all at once, in order to balance state budgets where the options exists to give some and for the state to also cut in other areas. State worker unions have, potentially, been overly powerful in the past, thus putting too much burden on the state. A balance must be struck.
We have two extreme, failed systems at work right now. The majority of the private sector where the work has too little power. Some private and public areas where strong unions have too much power. We need a middle ground for everyone.
