I agree that there should be some deference to keeping spoilers inside and labelled, but the older a film or book is, the less right someone has to

expect not to be spoiled through casual conversation.

If you are expecting a 60+ year old film not to be spoiled, then your expectations are unrealistic. If you are expecting the most recent episode of your favorite TV show not be spoiled, that's completely reasonable.
