I do Top Chef recaps at BOP and one of the points I've made over the past couple of weeks is that Antonia should have been in the finale of her season. Lisa was strung along because at the time, Bravo was more interested in drama than they were in quality cooking. I never thought Antonia was on the level of Richard and Stephanie. She was night and day better than Lisa, though.
The producers of the show basically came out and said between seasons five and six that because of the result in season four, they were no longer going to give Bravo any input. That always made me believe that they felt they may have accidentally influenced the final result of the show, which means they saw Antonia on the same level as Richard and Stephanie. I think she has justified that this season. One of the things I've mentioned all along, something Anthony Bourdain has corroborated on his blog, is that she deserved a better fate in almost every team challenge.
If you watch the Chinese restaurant episode again, pay attention to Antonia. She is working in every scene. Almost everyone else there is a deer in the headlights. Despite this, she narrowly avoided elimination in the episode and Casey blamed her for being sent home. That's the type of luck Antonia had when the challenges were not individual ones. I'm not surprised by how dominant she has been down the stretch as she has been out on her own.
What is clear from All Stars is that season four of Top Chef is a spectacular grouping of chefs. Even Spike acquitted himself well.
