In response to "The Liberals are sort of in the same position as the GOP - Harper should be easy pickings but they don't have anyone to do it." by Reagen

The Liberal decline began long before Ignatieff, Dion or even Martin. It really is starting to appear like a party in its death throes.

The only thing saving them is that the NDP cannot get more than a point or two above the symbolic 20% mark federally. They just can't. For all the positives towards Layton - and again, positives that mostly come from never exercising real power - he has not been able to grow the party. He was only able to bring it back to Broadbent levels after the twin follies of leadership that were McDonough and McLaughlin.

However, like the point of no return that came with the PCs, the Liberals increasingly look like a party that won't come back to serious positions unless it's under the name "Liberal Democrats".
