I just asked Crash for you (he's the guitarist) and his first RB guitar did the same thing. Call MSoft and tell them, they'll send you a box to return

it. As soon as they get it, they'll mail you a new one. It's a "known" problem. When Crash did it, they told him they could just send a new one and put a hold on his credit card (for $75, I think) that would be removed when they got the defective one. He told them forget it, just send the box. 2 days later UPS showed up with the pre-paid box to return it. MSoft had messed up and just sent the new guitar. :)
He likes his guitar hero guitars better than the RB guitar and normally uses one of them. He says the strum is too stiff on the RB guitar. Hope all this helps. :)
