Students get recommended to me because I'm very good at helping them navigate college, get scholarships, good grades, and learn important life skills. I also don't charge much in rent and I prefer to help someone who needs financial assistance. Two students went to law school, one is now getting an mba, another was able to buy a house in Sacramento when he was 24, the ones that transfer from a community college to a four year school have all gotten free rides, etc. They are all very successful in life.
I don't want to rent to a student who doesn't care about his grades and will blow off a test because he'd rather play WoW. He doesn't clean up after himself without being told and doesn't contribute anything to the house.
He left a halloween basket on the floor in his room that had melted candy in it and Bobby ate some of the fake plastic grass and almost died. Despite daily reminders, the basket stayed on the floor for three weeks. There is now a baby barrier to keep Bobby from going in his room. Last Thursday he took Bobby out (I work late on Thursday) and Bobby ate something off the sidewalk. He didn't see what it was because he was texting. Bobby got sick and had to go to the vet. I'm at the point where I don't trust him to do anything with my dog.
